A Voice In The Wilderness Part 2

Isaiah 40:3 "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.'"

As previously mentioned- this was a prophecy about John the Baptist  (Luke 3:4-6). His was a message of repentance- to turn the hearts of mankind towards God. Today the Church is to be that same voice- to carry on that same message- "Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matthew 3:1) ---meaning that Jesus Christ was about to come onto the scene. It has the same meaning today! Jesus Christ is about to come onto the scene! Things in the world today are lining up according to the scripture and something is about to happen!

Isaiah 40:3-9 gives us some insight into what this "voice" is to be like. It can't just be our own ideas, opinions and theologies. It must line up with the Word of God. Verse 3 says it's the "voice of one crying--" It has to be a voice filled with compassion, weeping; a voice of intercession- a pleading for the mercy of the Lord- to stand in the gap for the souls of others. We cannot hold hate and anger toward sinners. We must allow the love and compassion of the Lord to flow from Him, through us- to others. Otherwise our witness and testimony is a sham. We are fakes and the world will see straight through us. There are just too many Christians out there today who are filled with anger, judgment even to the point of hate. We must allow the Lord to cleanse us from these attitudes so that we will have an effective voice when we proclaim the gospel.

Verse 9 tells us to have a strong and courageous voice--"lift up your voice with strength, lift it up and be not afraid." We must not be afraid to tell others about the gospel of Christ. At times, some will not listen, but if we continue and live a godly life to back up what we are "preaching", when the need arises, others will want to hear.

We must be God's voice in the wilderness. Like Moses- He will fill our mouths with His words- but it must be delivered through the lips of humble obedient hearts. Wherever God has placed you, be a voice in that wilderness. Spend much time in prayer and communion, live a godly life and He will put us in specific places to deliver His message.
