Don't Be Overcome

Romans 12:21
"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

With all of the injustices that are taking place throughout the world today, the Lord reminded me of this verse. The word overcome originally means to have the victory over something.  It is easy to let all the evil that is taking place overwhelm us to such a point that we are not effective Christians. We can become so burdened down with all that is taking place that we aren't able to pray or intercede. We may think that things are never going to change and that Christians are not going to be vindicated. But the Word says that "vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord" (Romans 12:19)

We must not give in, be overwhelmed, depressed or dysfunctional-- but overcome evil by the goodness of God.  We can overcome evil, overcome the burden and overcome the state of being ineffective by influencing the environment around us. For example, our neighborhood, our families and our co-workers, those people that we come in contact with. We can show them the love of God by showing them His goodness. We can share the goodness, kindness and love of Jesus Christ to those around us. In doing this we overcome evil and prevent it from having the rule over us.

Not everyone is called to the battlefield- whether it be the literal battlefield or the spiritual battlefield. We aren't all called as missionaries, apostles and prophets- going into the front lines. But we have all been called to be soldiers of Jesus Christ- and that starts right where we are-- at home. We can do our part, no matter what our calling or where we live- we can do our part by praying, staying focused on Jesus Christ and His promise to make all things right in His time, and by overcoming evil with the goodness of the Lord.

Read the entire 37th chapter of Psalms. It shows us what the end of the wicked will be like and what are the promises to those who are righteous.

Dear Lord,
Please help me to stay focused on You. Help me to influence the environment around me by showing others the goodness of the Lord. I promise to do my part to overcome evil with good.
Amen
