The Chosen Stone-Jesus Christ

1 Peter 2:4-8
"4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame."  7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone," 8 and "A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed."

Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the church. The foundation is the apostles and prophets and the church is built on this. A cornerstone is the foundation stone of any building that is constructed.  The rest of the building has to be set in reference to the cornerstone or the building will not be be secure. Everything has a foundation. Buildings that have no foundation will soon fall down.

Peter describes the church as being a living stone built on this cornerstone- Jesus Christ. He must have the preeminence in the Church. All other stones must be set in reference to Him! Many people wonder why their lives are in shambles. I ask-- what is their foundation?  Problems in some form or another come to everyone. (Acts 14:22) But for a child of God- having their foundation stone Jesus Christ- He always brings us through to the other side- VICTORIOUS!

Christ is called the rock of offense in verses 7,8. In Matthew 21:44-48-- it states that whoever falls on the stone will be broken but the person that the stone falls on will be ground to powder. It is better to fall on the stone Jesus Christ and be broken and allow Him to do His will in our lives.  He is an offense to those who do not believe.

Dear Lord, thank You that You have set Jesus Christ as the chief cornerstone of the Church. With this fact in mind, we know that the Church will always have that foundation and will not fall. Many things will come against Your Church but with Jesus Christ we are already victorious. May we rest our hope in this.
In Christ's Name, Amen
