Is Your Globe Clean?

Matthew 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

In these verses Jesus is telling his disciples, and us, that the light of Jesus Christ shines through us to others.  We are not to hide our light. And it is our responsibility to keep the globe clean.  As a young girl, my family would go camping each year.  We started out with the kerosene lanterns and then my dad purchased the gas lanterns when they came out.  Each day he would sit at the picnic table and make sure that the globes were clean so that we could see at night.  There was something soothing about that kerosene lantern especially, seeing that little flame light up our campsite.  With the kerosene lantern, the globe would get dirty very quickly.  If he didn't keep it clean, we would not be able to see in the dark.

Our globe is our walk with Christ.  It is how we project ourselves before the world.  Our walk, our communication, our behavior- all play a part.  So, we have to make sure that our globe is clean so that the light of Jesus Christ will shine through us.  And it will if we let it.  Verse 16 states that if we let our light shine before men, they will see it.  But something I have realized over the years- they will see the light- but it doesn't mean that they are going to receive it.  If you are living a life pleasing to God, it will definitely glorify Him, but it is no assurance that the Light will be received. As a young camper, if I didn't stay close to the lantern, I could not see in the dark.  I would trip over tree roots and bump into things.  I had to receive the light from the lantern.  Many are rejecting the Light in these days, but we must continue to let it shine through us.  We must make sure our globes; our lives are clean before God and man.  It is my responsibility to shine the light.  It is up to others whether they will receive it or not.

"Arise, shine; for your light has come. And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you."
Isaiah 60:1
