Zarephath- A Season of Refining

Image
"Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you." 1 Kings 17:9 In my previous posts, I have been speaking on "Seasons" . Last post I wrote about our season at Cherith- which means  "separation", "cutting off" . Sometimes God has us go through a season when we have to totally depend on Him for all our needs. God sent Elijah to the brook Cherith ( 1 Kings 17), where he was totally dependent on God to provide food, water and safety. After a period of time, God then sent Elijah to the town of Zarephath, where a widow woman would care for him. Zarephath  means "refinery" from the root word to test or prove true . God was preparing Elijah for the great miracle at Mount Carmel, where fire fell from heaven and burned up the offering and everything around it- to display God's power and to prove that He was the only True God, as opposed to Baal and all the othe...

A Cherith Season

Image
"Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan."  1 Kings 17:3  In my previous post, I spoke about the different seasons that we go through spiritually. Today I want to speak more specifically. If we have a desire to fulfill our destiny, to fulfill the purpose that God has ordained for us, we must pass through many spiritual seasons. God destines and ordains these seasons in order to refine us, draw us closer to Him so that we may truly know Him in intimate ways. I have, and always will, maintain that our walk with the Lord is not a list of do's and don't's. It is not a life of tradition, religious activity and so on- but it is a relationship- a relationship that we begin to establish when we first are saved and begin our walk with Him. As time goes on, we learn how to enrich that relationship- just as any spouse would do in a marriage. You learn one another. You never stop learning and knowing your spouse. And w...

Seasons

"And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season ; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Psalm 1:3 It's that time of year again, the changing of the seasons. We live in the Midwest, so we get a little of every state's weather. This past summer was extremely hot and humid. At one point our grass was so dry I was concerned that it would never come back again. But after several days of rain recently, it has greened up and my husband actually had to mow- something that was only done about 3 times the entire summer.  I love the changes in the seasons- and my favorite is fall. I think of fall as my taking assessment of my life time. Probably comes from those school days way back when- we always started the day after Labor Day and it was time of regrouping, meeting up with old friends and learning something new in my new grade. I guess I still have that in me. Though fall can be look...

Be Still and Know

Image
"Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10 This has been one of my favorite verses for many years. I have a plaque with this verse on my office wall. In our last Women of Faith and Grace event- it was our theme. My sister-in-law Lynne always chooses a specific theme for our events. When it is my turn to speak, I don't always go with the theme when  the Lord gives me something else. This time, though, the Lord put it on my heart to go with it. Then I began to see on line the same verse, over and over again. I thought- Lord- You are trying to get our attention!  When you start see a specific verse or theme over and over again, take heed. The Lord is trying to get our attention. With everything that is happening in our nation and in the world- the Lord is directing us to learn to be still and know that He is God. We are to be still, be quiet in His presence and know and acknowledge that He is Lord! Th...
