The High Calling of God

  "Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10 This has been one of my favorite verses for many years. I have a plaque with this verse on my office wall. In our last Women of Faith and Grace event- it was our theme. My sister-in-law Lynne always chooses a specific theme for our events. When it is my turn to speak, I don't always go with the theme when  the Lord gives me something else. This time, though, the Lord put it on my heart to go with it. Then I began to see on line the same verse, over and over again. I thought- Lord- You are trying to get our attention!  When you start see a specific verse or theme over and over again, take heed. The Lord is trying to get our attention. With everything that is happening in our nation and in the world- the Lord is directing us to learn to be still and know that He is God.   Psalms 46:10: Be still and know- cease striving to “be” something, someone. Stop trying to make it come to pass. Allow God to do the work.   The still small voice, the whisper, the inward whisper into the deep crevices of our hearts- that’s where God speaks.   All clamor, anxiousness, fretting must be hushed.  Our spirits must find and then cultivate that inward calmness, that surrendering of our wills, bowing down to the Great Orchestrater and Conductor of our life.  When we are full of voices, clamor, opinions of the world around us, we won’t discern that still small whisper, the gentle breeze, the hushed sound of our Creator and Redeemer.   Be still and know-  Acknowledge and surrender to Him.   Let the peace of God settle deep down into your spirit.   ~Donna

Slowly, softly, so gently, the Lord allows the warmth of the sun to filter through the clouds to soothe your aching spirit. It trickles down from His heart and once again your spirit is beginning to feel new life. He comes inside and heals and restores. In the midst of the pain, in the deep of the night, in the center of the storm, He is there, ever interceding, ever present. Remember the old railroad signs-- STOP-LOOK-LISTEN ? Sometimes that is what we as Christians need to do. We live in a world full of stress and anxiety. It shows up in our health, our conversation and our way of life. God didn't design us to be caught up in the wacky world of stress. We are not designed to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. God never intended us to say yes to every opportunity that came along. He doesn't want us to be so busy that we forget all about Him. With all that is happening in the world today, we absolutely need to find a place of quiet and rest for our souls on a daily basis. Sometimes on an hourly basis! Psalm 46:10 says to "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"
