With Every Pearl

The other day I opened up a devotional and read the topic. As often happens, our eyes play tricks on us. The title was: "With Every Part"- speaking about our relationship with the Lord. But what my eyes saw was: "With Every Pearl".  Seeing that, I was off on a treasure hunt to see what God was showing me.

I researched how pearls are made. Some information I already knew, but I did learn a few new facts. In an oyster, sometimes a grain of sand will enter into the shell. It could also be bacteria or a parasite. When pearls are man manufactured-  a tiny piece of the mantle of another shell is inserted. What happens next is what makes the pearl. The oyster secrets a substance called nacre. This substance totally engulfs the foreign object. It continues to coat the object. It can take six months to four years for a pearl to develop. Nacre is very strong with many layers- the more layers the more iridescent the pearl. This substance is what makes a pearl so beautiful. The specific glow and radiance of a pearl happens when the nacre is reflected by light.

I thought- how like God! When we give our lives over to Him, He will take the irritants, those things that disturb us, beset us, stress us out- and if we give them to Him, He covers them with His grace and creates pearls out of our faults, weaknesses, trials. The things that break us, that cause us so much pain- when we release them to God- God covers them with His grace and mercy. I don't know about you, but this really thrills my heart. The things that we go through- our trials of sickness and pain, loss and grief, broken by hardships and crisis- as we allow God to do the work- they will become pearls in our lives. He will use the conflict, the troubles and sufferings in our lives and turn them into pearls. And when exposed to The Light- Jesus Christ- others will see and take notice. It may take a little time, longer than what we like, but be sure as we offer up our trials to the Lord- He will turn it into something beautiful.

Now, who doesn't love to look at beautiful pearls? Several Christmases ago, my husband bought me a pearl necklace. It was my first one. When I opened the box, I was humbled. I said to him: "I'm not a pearl necklace person" I like jewelry in moderation- but a pearl necklace? I felt unworthy of it. I always thought pearls were for the rich, the elite- always dressed up in their best, looking their best. And here I am most days in jeans or sweats. Though I do love to dress for Church and special occasions, I just never thought of myself with pearls. But he assured me that I was a pearl-type gal. And I wear it proudly, knowing that my husband saw something in me that I never saw.

In the spiritual sense- when we allow it- God turns all those irritants, gritty sandy things that disturb us to no end- and He takes them and turns them into beautiful pearls- that we can show off to others- because they are something that our Father made for us. We can shine His glory, His luminescence through us to others. We can be those pearl-type gals because God thinks we are worthy. I just think that is amazing!

Revelation 21:21 tells us that the gates of heaven are made of pearl- each individual gate is made of one pearl. Let that sink for a moment. It just might be, that all our trials and troubles. when given over to the Lord- and He covers them with His love, grace and mercy- may just become part of those beautiful pearl gates in heaven. Yes, I know, I am spiritualizing this, but it really makes you think and praise God that He can turn the bad things in our lives into something beautiful and precious. Something that the light of Christ can shine through and on- illuminating it so that others can see just what God has done in your and my situations.

With Every Pearl- there was a heartache, brokenness, suffering and or pain. With every pearl- God can take that piece of sand or irritant that entered into our life- and make it a beautiful pearl that we can show off any time, any where. That's our God!

Whatever your are going through, my friend- know that God can turn things around. When we release our problems to God, He will take them and make them into something beautiful. You can wear your pearls proudly because your heavenly Father has caused His love, grace and mercy to create a beautiful thing in your life- He has created a beautiful life out of your brokenness.

Be blessed- Donna
