The Ancient Paths

Image
Jeremiah 6:15,16 "'Were they ashamed  because of the abomination they have done? They were not even ashamed at all; they did not even know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time that I punish them, they shall be cast down', says the Lord. Thus says the Lord, 'Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'" NASB The ancient paths. Lately the Lord has really been dealing with me on these verses. The ancient paths. If He is saying that the Church has gotten off the ancient paths- what does that mean and what are those ancient paths? That word "ancient" doesn't just mean old, but it is a tried and true path. One that does not change and leads to "rest" for our souls. In the original it means: "everlasting, perpetual, always, long time of past, of future, fo...

Arise. Shine!

“Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” Isaiah 60:1-3  (NASB) We have a pear tree on the bank at the front of our house. Every spring it never fails to amaze me by its beauty and reminds me of the beauty and grace of God. This spring was no exception. The blossoms are as white and fragrant as ever and it stands so tall and erect- like a century looking out over our neighborhood. The other day as I was praying for the Church, I just kept seeing that beautiful pear tree in my mind. It was like God was saying that this is how the Church is going to be. Although we did not have a hard winter, other winters have been very hard- but still, come its season- the blossoms began to come forth and suddenly, almo...

A Refuge in God

Image
Psalm 91:1,2: "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him will I trust.'" The word "refuge" means shelter, hope, a place of trust, shelter from the storm. We have a large Mock Orange bush in our yard. All winter long, the little finches have found their shelter and food in its branches. The bush is untrimmed, so there are straggly branches that come out the top and sides, but as the bush goes down to the ground, it becomes more dense. There were times this winter, that I didn't even know the birds were in there until I would open the back door and walk out onto the porch. Then I would see dozens of birds fly out of the bush to a nearby utility wire. Recently something very interesting happened. My husband and I were getting ready to leave the house and I spotted a large hawk sitting on the fence beside the bush. We ...

What Will You Give Me?

Image
Matthew 26: 14-16 “Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?’ And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.” Judas took it upon himself to go to the chief priests and offer up Jesus Christ to them for a price. He may have heard that they were looking for an occasion to kill Christ (verses 3-5 of this chapter) . Scripture says that Satan entered into Judas and he went to the chief priests and asked of them: “What are you willing to give me” for Jesus? I thought, how many times do WE betray Christ? We may not have a devil, but how many times do we betray Him with our actions, desires and behavior? Because we live in an age of grace, many times Christians give in to the temptation to ‘give Him up” for something we think is better. Disappointments in life will come and for those who are not living close to t...
