With Every Pearl

Image
The other day I opened up a devotional and read the topic. As often happens, our eyes play tricks on us. The title was: "With Every Part" - speaking about our relationship with the Lord. But what my eyes saw was: "With Every Pearl".   Seeing that, I was off on a treasure hunt to see what God was showing me. I researched how pearls are made. Some information I already knew, but I did learn a few new facts. In an oyster, sometimes a grain of sand will enter into the shell. It could also be bacteria or a parasite. When pearls are man manufactured-  a tiny piece of the mantle of another shell is inserted. What happens next is what makes the pearl. The oyster secrets a substance called nacre. This substance totally engulfs the foreign object. It continues to coat the object. It can take six months to four years for a pearl to develop. Nacre is very strong with many layers- the more layers the more iridescent the pearl. This substance is what makes a pearl so beautiful. T...

I Am Determined

Image
I don't make New Year's resolutions anymore. I usually break them before the month is over. But I am making some determinations.                I am determined to continue in what God has shown me. I am determined to walk even more boldly and confidently in the calling that God has placed on my life. I am determined to overcome my flesh and allow God's Spirit to move in and through me, more and more. I am determined to serve and love Him with all heart, soul and body. I am determined to love others and see others through the eyes of Jesus Christ. I am determined to speak more boldly of what my Savior means to me, what He has done for and in me, and of what He is going to do. I am determined to stand even closer to my Pastor husband, George Parsons , in God's service; to be even a greater help-mate and partner in the ministry- and in our own personal lives. I am determined to not be just a survivor in 2026- but a THRIVER! Whatever c...

Fear Not!

Image
Re posting from 12/21/2024   "And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."   Luke 2:10-11 Fear not! The message is still true today. So many people are filled with fear and anxiety of many things- the unknown mostly. Fear of losing their job, getting sick, not being able to provide for their family. Fear of something happening to their loved ones, fear of growing old, fear of what is coming in the new year. The unknown. We spend so much time worrying and fretting over the future that isn't even here yet and over things that may never come to pass. Fear not!  God says, fear not. The Apostle John said "there is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment." (1 John 4:18)  If you have ever been in the grips of a panic attack, fear of something coming- you know ...

The Mystery of Quietness

Image
"And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God." Luke 1:35   Quietness. Can you hear it? The miraculous in the stillness. God works in the quiet, in the stillness, in the small whispers and deep thoughts. Roots grow deep in the quiet of winter. They find water and nourishment deep in the soil.  The miraculous is taking place. Something seems to appear dead- but in the darkness, in the quietness and stillness of the earth- a miracle is taking place, hidden from the human eye. The miracle of new beginnings, new life.  It isn't in the earthquake- the loud and boisterous. It isn't in the fire-of personalities. It isn't in the flood- the flurry of activity and fleshly emotions-- but it is in the still, quietness of the mystery of God in Christ- the incarnate- virgin birth.  Jesus Christ- fir...

Consider the Firefly

Image
I first posted this in 2012. Recently, thinking about the gross darkness that is covering the earth and its inhabitants, I was reminded of this post. So much is happening in our world these days. We are truly living in the last days, without a doubt. Christians must be the light- to shine the light of Jesus Christ into the darkness. We are to be part of the Light and not of the darkness. We must decrease so that Christ will increase in and through us. We must seek Him with our whole heart, mind and spirit. We must want, desire Him more than our next meal, our next pleasure, our next breath. When we become so hungry and thirsty for Him, more than life itself- He will manifest His presence to us and through us. His light will shine out of us. People wont' see us, but they will see, feel and experience the Presence of Jesus Christ. Be that Light to someone in darkness. Show them the way to life eternally, hope in this world as well as the next.     John 3:30 : “H...

Have You Left Your Baggage Behind?

Image
"Then David left the baggage in the care of the baggage keeper and ran to the battle line."  1 Samuel 17:22 (NASB)   Last year my husband and I went on a cruise. We had to fly to Miami. I was constantly checking my app for the airline to make sure that our luggage was going with us. All went well going down.  But on our return flights- when we were leaving the Atlanta airport, I kept checking the app to see where our luggage was. It kept showing that it was still back in Miami. Of course, I am panicking, but my calm, reassuring husband kept telling me it would be okay. (He wasn't checking the app-and he always says everything will be okay. And he is usually right!)  After a few times of checking, and looking out the window as they loaded up the luggage- the luggage cart went away. (Gasp!)  And the app still said our luggage was in Miami. But after a little while, another luggage cart arrived and they began to unload. Way in the back, I spied our two ...

A Place of Worship

Image
"These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold-though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world." I Peter 1:7 (NLT)  In Bible days, threshing floors were places where they gathered the wheat and threshed it, either by animals or instruments to separate the chaff and the grain. Then it was prepared to be winnowed where the chaff and grain were separated- the chaff was the loose, outer covering on the grain and was useless in making flour. When it was winnowed, the chaff was blown away by the wind and grain fell to the ground. The threshing floor- was a place of separation . In the Bible, it was of great significance in their culture and religion.  Many times it was also a place of divine encounters.  We, as believers, go through a similar ...
