Fear Not

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."

 Luke 2:10-11

Fear not! The message is still true today. So many people are filled with fear and anxiety of many things- the unknown mostly. Fear of losing their job, getting sick, not being able to provide for their family. Fear of something happening to their loved ones, fear of growing old, fear of what is coming in the new year. The unknown. We spend so much time worrying and fretting over the future that isn't even here yet and over things that may never come to pass.

Fear not!  God says, fear not. The Apostle John said "there is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment." (1 John 4:18)  If you have ever been in the grips of a panic attack, fear of something coming- you know those words first hand: "fear is torment". Some people live in constant, daily torment- fear- isolated in their home because of fear of the unknown- they are in torment- fear- unable to go about their daily activities. Others may not be so incapacitated, but still they live in fear of many things. God says: "Fear not".  Paul told Timothy that God hasn't given us a spirit of fear- but of power, love and a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7).

Fear not! What is it that you are fearful of today? We must remember that God is Jehovah Jireh- the Lord our Provider. He will provide when the need arises. Many years ago, while I was praying about some of my fears of the future, God showed me a picture in my spirit. I saw a winding road, and at intervals there were sacks by the roadside. Sacks, unopened, but waiting for my arrival. What He was saying to me was that He had already provided the answer to my need in advance. My road was prepared for what was up ahead. I need not worry or fear. When the need would arrive, the provision would be right there. All I needed to do was to trust Him with my future- knowing that He had already gone before me and prepared the way for me.

Fear not! God says fear not! Angels sounded out a loud "Fear not!" Even today- they are singing- "fear not, for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy!"  You have a Savior, and His name is Jesus Christ. Fear not for He is Emmanuel, God with us, in us and for us- and will never leave of forsake us. Fear not! Be joyful in the Lord, because He will provide. Whatever you are facing at this moment, whatever you are anxious about the coming year, whatever steals your peace- God says: Fear not! I am with you and will take care of you. Rejoice in this promise.

The weekend was great with family, friends and Church family celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. We must keep in mind that He is no longer on that cruel cross, but in fact arose from the grave and ascended to heaven. Then He sent His spirit back to live in each on of us who will believe. (Acts 2). My redeemer lives! In our verse, Roman 8:11, we are promised that the same Spirit which raised Jesus Christ from the dead can live in us- today! It is not just for when we get to heaven. The Crimson Cross

"But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people" Psalm 22:6  When Jesus died on the cross, His blood was shed for the remission of our sin. He was the One and Only Supreme Sacrifice. That cross and the ground surrounding it must have had an eerie scarlet, crimson shade. As blood poured out of His body, onto the cross and onto the ground, it was to fulfill prophecy and to secure redemption for broken, sinful humanity- to all who will accept it. Psalm 22 was written by King David about 1,000 years before Christ was crucified, but it is a prophetic detail of what Christ endured on the cross.  The word "worm" is the Hebrew word "tola" . It describes a scarlet or grub worm. When the female of the species would give birth, she attached herself to a tree trunk, permanently, never to leave again. A Sweet Fragrance

  "Awake, north wind! Rise up, south wind! Blow on my garden and spread its fragrance all around. Come into your garden, my love; taste its finest fruits"  Song of Solomon 4:16 (N LT) I am having spring fever! "F or lo, the winter is past---the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land." (S/S 2:11-12 ) At least in my mind and my heart. Yes, I know- "Three snows after the forsythia blooms"- the old saying- and then comes spring. But in my heart, the forsythia is blooming now, and as for me we don't need anymore snow or cold.  I was reading this verse in Spurgeon's Devotional this morning- and it really set me thinking. The book of the Song of Solomon is a love story of the Church and Christ as depicted by a Shulamite woman betrothed to the Shepherd-King.
