Cascading Grace
"...My grace is always more than enough for you, and my power finds its full expression through your weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:9 (TPT)
Recently, the Lord has been reminding me of this verse. Then this morning I began reading in Romans and I came across 1:5-Paul is telling the Roman Christians this: "Through Him grace cascaded into us, empowering us with the gift of apostleship..." (TPT). Lately, dealing with certain inconvenient or irritating situations, I have found myself praying- not that He remove the situation or part the Red Sea- so that I will have clear sailing, but I found myself praying that He would grant me the grace to go through the situation. And not just muddle through, grumpy with a scowl on my face- but go through with a confident attitude that God was in control and that He would help me handle whatever came my way. And not just handle it, but by my attitude I would be a witness to others of God's amazing grace.
In the NKJ verse 5 in Romans reads like this: "Through Him we have received grace...". That word "received" means "to take, lay hold of, to take what is one's own, take a thing due, collect." God has given us this grace- it is there- but we must lay hold of it. Like the promises in scripture- they are ours- but we must lay hold of them. We must take it, grab it and utilize it. So many times, I think that it just should happen automatically- oh God, give me grace for this or that. The thing is- He has already given me that grace- sufficient grace, cascading grace, more than enough and it will never run out! But I must do my part- I must lay hold of it, believe that it is there, walk in it. Our flesh wants to go on the way we always have without much effort from ourselves. But this is walking in the "spirit"- walking in the grace that He has already lavished, cascaded over us. I love that word- cascaded! In Webster's online dictionary- 3."something falling or rushing forth in quantity". I picture cascading as something that gracefully falls over something- covering something in a beautiful way. It is something that is continually falling, cascading over and in us- something that never runs out- it is more than enough, more than sufficient.
Grace- we are saved by grace- an act of God reaching down to us while we were still sinners. But it doesn't end there. That grace is continually flowing to us and it ours for the taking. It is due us and we need to appropriate it to our lives, our situations.
Yes, sometimes God does remove the situation or remove us out of the situation. Sometimes He dries up the Red Sea or calms the storm. But other times He allows us to go through them in order to bestow His grace upon us- in order to show Himself off, by bringing us through the situation. In our weakness He is made strong- He shows up!
Cascading Grace- cascading grace- continually flowing into us empowering us to do and act the right way.
Cascading Grace- that empowers us to go through situations confidently, knowing that God is working it all out for our good. (Romans 8:28).
Cascading Grace- that quiet confidence in God.
Grace- cascading grace
