Healthy Choices

"It's true that our freedom allows us to do anything, but that doesn't mean that everything we do is good for us. I'm free to do as I choose, but I choose to never be enslaved to anything.
1 Corinthians 6:12 (TPT)

Since the weather has been cooler here, I have been taking advantage of it and having my morning Bible reading and prayer out on our porch. I love being close to nature and what better way to enjoy it than to start my day out in His beautiful creation and draw near to God. As I finished up this morning, I asked Him to help me with the chores and other things that I wanted to do today. And I asked Him to help me make healthy choices in what I ate. Struggling to maintain a healthy diet is difficult on my own. It was then that I realized that I needed to make "healthy choices" in other areas of my life also.

Healthy choices. We usually hear this phrase in regards to what we eat. We also  need to make healthy choices for our souls. We need to make sure that our souls stay healthy as to  what we do, our attitudes, what we see, what we hear, what we speak. They are also healthy choices. And the more often we make these healthy choices the easier it becomes as we go day by day. We could also think of them as Godly choices. "Lord, take over my thoughts today, my speech, my actions, what I look at, what I let control my mind, what I take in, what I write and what I put out on social media so that it glorifies You first of all and then is uplifting and encouraging to other people."

In our last mid-week Bible Study, Pastor spoke on us not coming under the power of anything- from 1 Corinthians 6:12. That thought: "Do not come under the power of anything" really stuck with me throughout the week. And then this morning- with healthy choices for our souls- it all comes together. We are not to let anything rule over us except God. Don’t let food, social media, news, friends, don’t let anything have power over us.  Through Christ, we have the power to make the choices in our lives. True, there are things in life that we have no choice in- but we have the power to choose how they will affect us. I heard one Pastor's wife make the statement: "It can either make you bitter or make you better." In her time of a great trial, she chose to allow it to make her better.

We must allow ourselves to come under the power and the control of the Lord through the Holy Spirit. It isn't a bondage type of control- but an indwelling of His Spirit to rule over our spirit. His control will make us better- more into His image. When we choose healthy (soul, mind and spirit) healthy- we find ourselves going through life with a much better attitude. We will find ourselves changing into His image. Just as healthy choices in eating will change things for the better in our physical bodies, spiritual healthy, Godly choices will make changes in our spirits, our minds and our souls. We won't get as stressed out as we used to. Our minds will be full of His Word. Our bodies, physically, will also align to His Word and our attitudes. It has been a proven scientific fact that our minds affect our bodies. And if we are always thinking, dwelling on unhealthy things- it will eventually affect our bodies.

Healthy choices. Are you nourishing your souls with the kinds of choices you are making throughout the day? If not, take time and access what controls you through the day. Social media, the news, bad reports, bad attitudes, unforgiveness, anger, bitterness? All these will hinder our walk with the Lord. They cloud out His goodness and loving-kindness. They blur our eyes so that we can not see the beauty in the day, the small miracles that take place all around us, God's hands in everything about us.  We will miss out on all that Lord has for us. Make healthy choices today- for the sake of your soul, for your joy and contentment, for God's glory.  Ask God to help you, to nudge you when you are about to choice unwisely. God is our constant friend and wants the best for us.

"Truth's shining light guides me in my choices and decisions; the revelation of Your Word makes my pathway clear." Psalm 119:105 (TPT)

Healthy choices.

Choose wisely.

Don't come under the power of anything but the Lord Jesus Christ.

"Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising Him always.

Philippians 4:8 (TPT)
