My Peace

John 24:27: "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you."

I am not much for meditation. When I have tried it in the past, usually I either fall asleep or my mind wanders. Thoughts like- what will I make for supper. What am I going to do next- I need to do some cleaning, or deciding what to buy at the store. But recently I tried it again- tried to clear my mind of all distractions and think about Christ. I know- many people think of meditation as an eastern philosophy or equate with having a mind open to the devil. I have had the same thoughts. But all that aside, I had begun just spending a few moments- just bowing in His presence, quieting my soul- imagining myself in the Holy of Holies- before the ark and the cherubim- in His glory. On this one particular night, I just sat quietly, trying hard not to speak, but just to think about the Lord. It was after a few moments that a picture came to my mind- very similar to the picture I have inserted here. I saw the Lord's hand reaching out to me and the words from John 24:27: "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you." I reached my hand out to Him, imagining they held all my anxieties and distress, turned my palms upside down and emptied my problems into His hands. It brought so much peace and calmness to my heart.

Later, I did a word study on the word "Peace". In John 14:27 the Greek for peace is "eirene'. The Hebrew equivalent is "shalom". In Isaiah 9:6 Isaiah is prophesying about the coming Messiah and one of His names would be "Prince of Peace". I did a little word study on that word "shalom".

The Hebrew spelling of "shalom" means "chaos, attached, authority, destroy". Hebrew is read right to left which would mean - destroy the authority attached to chaos. I just found that remarkable!  Jesus- the Prince of Peace has come to destroy the authority that is attached to chaos. And doesn't the word chaos describe so much of what is going in the world and in individual lives? He is our Prince of Peace- He has come to destroy the authority that orchestrates chaos in the world and in us! Satan is called the Prince of the Power of the Air- but Christ is THE Prince of Peace- He rules over all. When we take His peace, replace our chaos with His peace- it brings wholeness and tranquility into our souls.

When you are going through a trial- when all seems chaotic around you or in you- remember that Christ came to destroy that authority- satan's authority- that is attached to chaos. God never orchestrates chaos. He is a God of Peace- Christ is The Prince of Peace. When WE take authority over that chaos- whether in our lives, the lives of others, or the chaos around us- Christ gave us authority over the enemy of our souls- (Luke 10:19-29) and we need to be mindful to take that authority and dismember the chaos. I like to send these things right back on satan's head and turn it into a blessing- in this case- a blessing of Peace- Christ's peace.

Many times, since that initial event of seeing Christ's hand reaching out to me- when I am praying I will see that hand again, reaching out to me,  and He reminds me that He is the Prince of Peace- in this world and in my life. By faith, I walk in His peace. No- the problem may not go away- but in the midst of the problem- He give us Peace.

Take His peace.

Walk in His peace

Take authority over the chaos, in Jesus' Name.
